Jodi Paige Kines, Founder & Lead Designer

Always the crafty creator who loved to color, cut and paste long before it was done on a computer screen, I knew from a young age that I wanted to pursue a career in design.  I graduated from Winthrop University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design and have been ‘designing spaces’ in one way or another ever since.  During college while working for a local furniture and accessory retail store I began offering my design services to interested patrons.  After graduation, my “career” began at a large architectural firm where I worked on commercial design projects including office workspaces, hospitality, and restaurants.  As challenging and exciting as these projects were, I continued to take on small residential projects whenever time allowed.  After almost four years with the firm and a short stent as a construction project manager for a high-rise office complex, I leaned into my love for residential design & made Plan.It Design my full-time job.  

  

Fast forward more than a few years and I found myself back in Belmont, NC where I was raised, married to John (the most encouraging & patient man alive) and blessed with two sons, Greyson & Graham.  Throughout our sons childhood years, I was fortunate to fill more of my days with my role as Mom versus Designer, but as we looked ahead to an empty nest, in 2022 I was thrilled to get back to focusing more of my energy and creativity on a career I love.

John Kines, Director of Operations & Business Development

I was raised in Lexington, NC and after receiving a masters in accounting from Appalachian State University and earning my CPA license, I relocated to Charlotte to pursue a career in public accounting with a small local accounting firm.  In 2002, I joined Bank of America.  During my successful 20-year career with the bank, I held multiple positions in finance as well as international investment banking and had the opportunity to travel extensively, meet incredible individuals and learn from some of the best in the financial industry.   

 

While I was grateful for the experience and exposure those positions afforded me and our family, having been married for as long as I’d been with the bank and at the time having two sons winding down their high school years, I eventually found myself ready to step away from the stress of corporate America and pursue a slower, more purposeful pace and in April of 2022 I was fortunate enough to retire from Bank of America.

In 2022, with Plan.It Design technically in its 24th year as a design business and after 20 years of marriage, we combined our passions and talents to focus and grow the business to what it is today.  Jodi’s creative, entrepreneurial spirit coupled with John’s keen business sense and meticulous handyman capabilities have given us the opportunity to faithfully pursue our dreams together.  We have worked tirelessly to attract and partner with some of the best business partners, associates and affiliates in the industry.  We take immense pride in helping our trusting clients make the most of their homes and workplaces.      

 

When it’s time to decompress, Jodi can be found lacing up her running shoes while John loves a long road bike ride.  We rarely miss one of our boys’ basketball games, golf matches or swim meets and jump at the chance to spend quality time with each of them.  We both love any day in the NC mountains, evenings by the fire with a good glass of sauvignon blanc and craft beer, and dreaming/planning our next adventure.  Our faith has always been at the forefront of our marriage and we strive for that to be evident in the way we conduct business with both our partners and clients.

Alison Turner, Design Associate

Alison comes to us with over a decade of design experience from many facets of the industry.  She has extensive experience in organizing, styling and staging residential and commercial spaces, having worked alongside many seasoned professionals as well as taken on her own clients and projects.  As a little girl, she would often rearrange and redecorate her room, fascinated by how simple shifts could transform a space. She is constantly soaking up visual ques around her and loves a good instagram inspiration image.  She loves finding a good deal and is a master of the details that finish off a space, able to strike the perfect balance of personal, clean and complete.   

 

Alison is married to Joe and they have three kids, Ila, Rose and Wylde. They live in Belmont, NC after relocating from Virginia Beach, VA in 2013.

 

Alison loves to lift weights, listen to podcasts and spend time with family and friends.
